Summerfield Waldorf School Reviews by Parents and Teachers

Because the school refuses to address the request for accommodations spelled out by an IEP for my son's dyslexia, yes I would concur:  the school is not for everyone.

The total lack of a comprehensive science program hurts this school. There is no coordinated physical science program. —Submitted by a teacher

  1. Do your research before committing to the grades. Ask questions. How many kids left the class mid year or year end. Don't be surprised if the number is 8-10. Ask how many children have joined the class because of behavioral issues at other schools. And if you go forward, test outside along the way. In our case we were years behind what we were promised.
The early education is wonderful. If you have red flags about the grades pay attention. Talk to families who have left. Do your homework.

  2. Very true. Also ask tutors. They will tell you that children leave this school 1-3 years below grade level. The school is a mess, with some classes having 2-3 teachers in a year. One teacher left to Germany last year, with no notice, leaving the class a mess. Of course, she is back this year. There is NO LEADERSHIP. The teachers make all decisions. Disagree with a teacher, and they will throw your child out. Ask community about this school. It has a terrible reputation. The Niche reviews are from staff. They only have 18-24 kids in each high school class, but every one of them seems to have done a review? They show 100% graduation rate. 2 high school kids dropped out the year we were there. WORST ACADEMICS.

    1. Hi, I know this review is from a few years ago, but I’m hoping you see this! I’m dealing with this right now my son is in fifth grade and I raised some concerns about his teacher. Now they’ve told me he can’t come back to school until I have a meeting with his teacher, the “lower-school-coordinator” who is also the mother of another student in the class and two other random teachers I’ve never interacted with. I sent an email to the coordinator saying that I’m not comfortable with these other random teachers there and she sent e very cold email back just saying they will be there. I feel it’s juts his teacher bringing her friends with and I’m very uncomfortable. My son doesn’t want to move schools at this point in the year and I absolutely don’t want to make him but I just don’t feel comfortable with any of this.

You may ask, "where are all the 5=Star reviews?" Well, the problem with those reviews is that many tend not to be too honest. I have included 4-star reviews that appear honest. Often, gushing reviews are placed by teachers and administrators - as some comments here indicate. "This school educates the whole child!!!" - 5 stars - by Anonymous... I say baloney! Notice, many of the reviewers have been misled by Waldorf and are still buying the PR, even after having been disappointed. Feel free to comment but understand the intent of this blog.
